On a recent visit to Cambridge, I spotted this ‘heavenly’ bookshop. In between punting on the Cam and a cake and tea stop, my friends and I couldn’t help but take a quick look – I mean, who could resist this window display? It’s colourful, varied and has some cute cuddly toys for good measure. It was the icing on the cake to make the weekend perfect.
One of my friends is a teacher, and her eyes immediately lit up at the sight of the children’s section. There are lots of beautiful books for kids and I was delighted to see a few of my favourites, including Quentin Blake’s Mrs Armitage on Wheels – what a great book!
The Angel Bookshop is definitely one to stop off at if you are in need of a present for a child as it’s full of cuddly and wooden toys and literary gift packs. I was quite tempted with the Moomin mugs myself…
While children (and teachers) browse the toys and exciting kid’s area, there are plenty of grown up books for the rest of us.
Of course, when I read the ‘more books downstairs’ sign and noticed that there were ‘Wordsworth Classics from £2.00’, I was down there like a shot!
I think it’s pretty much impossible to see this many gorgeous classics on a bookshelf and not buy one. This time I chose the rather bulky The Forsyte Saga by John Galsworthy. I’ve become quite addicted to the series on Netflix, so hope the book lives up to expectations!
I do love a bookshop that’s does something extra special, like having a toy train set ready to play with on a table!
I also love the way even this tidy bookshop is so bursting with books, it has to use the space underneath the table!
So, if you ever find yourself in Cambridge, why not pop into this delightful bookshop and treat yourself?
Here’s the address: 2 Bene’t St Cambridge CB2 3QN (Tel: 01223 316244) and click here for their website.
That looks a lovely little place. Interesting because looking at the window display, I’d probably not be hugely drawn to it but I would love that classics section! That’ll teach me to judge a book by it’s cover!!

I suppose it does look a little like a toy shop! The other window, which I didn’t get a good photo of, looked a bit more grown up. It’s a great shop either way, but definitely a good one for kids.
